This is a surgery that removes the testes, shutting down our internal testosterone production, sometimes called “castration.” This procedure can be done as a single procedure, or at the same time as a vaginoplasty. Some ways of performing the procedure may limit the available skin for a future vaginoplasty, if desired, thus it is important for us to see a surgeon who is familiar with T/GE care or willing to learn. Waiting multiple years between orchiectomy and vaginoplasty may lead to shrinkage of the skin and thus less skin available for vaginoplasty.
